Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this endearing family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
