Assassin's Creed Reveals Bizarre AoT Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a bizarre partnership that breaks traditional predictions, the game developer has revealed an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing free extra story content for Shadows players.
Mysterious Mission Revealed
According to the official release, "An unusual meeting pulls protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where whispers of banned ceremonies and monstrous metamorphoses resonate through the shadows." The plot presents a "strangely dressed woman named Ada" who tasks the duo with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a important location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a secret sect.
The mission focuses on "strange trials and a fearsome foe" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.
Familiar Places and Changes
The preview showcases the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was formerly where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The preview finishes with a striking scene showing a character, likely the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Exclusive Rewards and Extra Content
Players who finish the mission will receive an special katana in addition to numerous artifacts secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes in-store Attack on Titan item packs, offering:
- Titan-themed outfit for Yasuke
- Mikasa costume for Naoe
- Unique arms
- Survey Corps steed
Third Free Story Content
This update also introduces the game's third no-cost story episode, titled "The Mystery." This playful mission pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature techniques: Naoe reveals a theatrical interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns subduing stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also contains a original environmental puzzle that may ultimately explain some unresolved questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Japanese Animation Partnerships
This marks not the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with popular anime properties. The series previously featured a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla subtly contained a quest that unmistakably nodded to the popular series One-Punch Man.
