The Gunners' boss feels assured that his side can keep managing with fitness issues following disclosing that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

Havertz has been sidelined since August after undergoing knee surgery. Originally slated to be available earlier in December, the manager stated the player hit a snag when advancing his rehabilitation and failed to reach “the next phase.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a team that is considerably steadier and has more options,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update presents a selection headache for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. Arteta must choose between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal as a makeshift striker against Chelsea, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who came back from a muscle injury in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is in contention after 11 months out.

Defensive Concerns Linger

Further fitness issues affect defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Chelsea match. Therefore, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to start again in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta believes the substantial investment on squad depth during the summer has resulted in a more robust situation to handle such unavailability.

When asked if more options was helping their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Absolutely, since the current term has seen more issues in certain positions, and now what’s happening with the defence,” he noted.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to fulfil different roles if we want to compete at this level. And the instance of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Star

Addressing the setback previously mentioned by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave more insight. “He was doing everything. He failed to advance to the required step and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to welcome him back. “The team is keen to have him. Truly, it’s a player that, personally, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his personality. I watch him struggle on the sidelines.”
