The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Series on BBC
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last season concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
Yet, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
