This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
